Design intervention

by Tjeerd Veenhoven, Material & Product Designer, Studio Tjeerd Veeenhoven

The elimination of harmful single use products drives me and my design studio. In this presentation I will discuss why these products are so harmful, how they got to be and of course how we can get rid of them. Also I will explain how cutting edge biotechnology can create social impact in the rural regions of India. Material innovation and rethinking the way we design, produce and consume our products is what design is all about to me.

About Tjeerd Veenhoven

Studio Tjeerd Veenhoven makes products, but in a new, special, experimental and sometimes radical way. Tjeerd designs the entire value chain, from a raw material to an often successful consumer product from natural waste materials.

He was one of the first designers to make algae textiles with AlgaeFabrics, he uses tulip leaves as a natural pigment to color products, and palm leaves for palm leather products. In the often lengthy research and design process, Tjeerd fulfills countless roles: he formulates it himself: inventor, producer, designer, philosopher, activist, businessman, volunteer and bank. For each project, he uses the value of natural residual materials with the aim of making the world more sustainable.
